Why Cape Town is the Perfect Destination for an Engagement Photoshoot?

Updated: Feb 28

Cape Town is a dream destination for couples seeking breathtaking engagement photos. With its golden beaches, majestic mountains, and vibrant cityscape, it offers the perfect backdrop for love stories. Recently, I had the privilege of capturing Wiktoria and Harry's engagement session in this stunning South African paradise. From the sun-kissed shores of Sunset Beach to the dramatic cliffs and Lion's Head - every moment was pure magic. Maybe except for actually climbing the latter! That hike was something else!

In this blog, I’ll take you through their unforgettable engagement shoot, sharing the best locations, tips for planning a destination photoshoot, and why Cape Town is one of the most romantic places for couples.

Photoshoot Locations

1. Kirstenbosch Botanic Garden– The Perfect Jurassic Like Backdrop

We started our session in Botanic Gardens in Cape Town, one of the most famous gardens in South Africa. With the perfect greens, surrounded by nature and mountains it created perfect background to showcase the love. The effect as you can see - dreamy photographs capturing intimate moments like laughs smiles and hugs.

Pro Tip: Early morning is best for shooting here to avoid crowds and get the best lighting. Or afternoons. We took these photos in the middle of the day, and struggled a bit with harsh lighting.

2. Sunset Beach – Sunset Views & Table Mountains

Next, we headed up to the Sunset Beach, where the view of sea and Table Mountains in the background was simply breathtaking. We were very lucky as the weather was gorgeous and sky was blue. In my modest opinion - that would be the top location for an engagement locations in Cape Town!

Pro Tip: Bring a light blanket for cozy sitting shots and take advantage of the sweeping views for wide-angle photos. My only regret is not being at that beach during sunset as this is the best time to shoot here. The sky turns pastel pink, creating a romantic giving an ethereal feel.

3. Sunset Cruise – A Pop of Amazing Colors & Fun

For the grand finale that day, we booked sunset cruise , to admire Cape Town covered in golden hour light. The dramatic stunning colours against the endless ocean made for an epic, cinematic moment. Sitting on the edge of the boat, Harry and Wiktoria embraced as the wind swirled around them—a picture-perfect ending to an unforgettable engagement shoot.

Pro Tip: Bring warm clothes as it gets quite cold after dark on the sea.

4. Lion's Head – Dramatic Cliffs & Breathtaking Views

Next day in the very early morning, we headed up to Lion's Head, where the view of Cape Town below was simply breathtaking. The climb was quite challenging, but the views were so worth it! I mean... look at the view behind them!
